One Response to Chemistry Matters, Singapore Science

  1. Julie says:

I like this book, but I’m afraid it would be hard for a non-chemistry parent to teach. No teacher manual is available. The concepts are presented well and you must understand and apply the concepts to be able to answer the questions. There is not too much math and I intend to follow this book with an AP level book.

Also, do not purchase the lab book. The recommendation on the singaporemath site recommends that the lab book is not practical since it requires a lot of chemicals. Since I teach from the Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry I was interested in evaluating the lab book. It the student book it often says to used unknown sample A with unknown B. The unknowns are explained in the teacher manual, but this in not available for purchase in the USA. I’ve emailed the publishers in Singapore, but without a Singapore educational id, they won’t sell me a teacher version.
